GREEN Questions:

  1. What are the smart, green or eco-friendly features of your business or product?
Because MyFax eliminates the need for a fax machine, it helps organizations reduce energy consumption (since there’s no need to power a separate machine 24x7), virtually eliminate paper consumption (because the documents come electronically users can choose if they need to print a fax), and eliminate the need for toner and the packing in which it comes. Of course, it also eliminates the need to dispose of yet another piece of electronic gear into the waste cycle.

  2. What inspired your business or product?
The initial idea was to allow people in Third World countries to send faxes over the Internet, fax to fax. Additionally, the traditional method of paper faxing just seemed so wasteful and inconvenient. Once electronic document delivery became commonplace it stood to reason that there must be a way to send and receive faxes that way too. The value of being able to send and receive faxes anywhere you can get an Internet connection, rather than having to depend on a particular machine in a particular location, cannot be underestimated.

  3. How do you envision customers using your services or product?
Customers are able to send and receive faxes from a PC, mobile phone, PDA or other device anywhere they can get an Internet connection. Faxes are sent and received electronically rather than on paper, which makes them accessible at any time, as well as eco-friendly. Faxers can either use their email account or the online MyFax Central to send, receive, view and distribute faxes.

  4. How do you see your business or product fitting in to the green movement?
It fits in three ways. The first is by greatly reducing the amount of paper consumed. If just one percent of the faxes currently sent on paper in the U.S. were sent electronically instead, 73.5 million trees would be saved. The second is by reducing energy consumption. According to the US EPA, a fax machine consumes more electricity than any other office equipment. Eliminating that machine saves the energy it would consume. Then there’s the machine itself. Electronics require special disposal due to the hazardous chemicals required to make them. If all fax machines were replaced by MyFax, it would take a huge volume of electronic devices and chemicals out of the waste stream.

  5. What would you change about your community, country or world to make it more eco-friendly?
I would like to see people walk or ride their bikes more when they can. It’s good for the environment and the individual! I’d like to see them follow the rules/guidelines for disposal of different types of waste. Too many people still take the easy way out rather than thinking about what that decision will do to the environment. I’d like to see electronic waste and battery disposal made more readily available. And of course I’d like to see individuals and organizations replace fax machines with MyFax.
