Having houseplants is incredibly popular, and it is easy to see why. There are many different reasons that people may want to have some indoor plants. They might look good, smell good or even provide useful ingredients. For example, growing lemon mint can not only give you a nice house plant but also give you lemon mint to use in dishes. 

Some people may even like that certain plants are able to clean up and purify the air in your home. But which type of plants can provide these unique and helpful benefits? If that is a question you have been wondering, you have come to the right place.

With that in mind, this article is going to look at a few different types of plants that can purify the air in your home.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is not only commonly used to soothe burns, but this healing plant is also included in some beverages. In general, it has a variety of different benefits to people. However, Aloe Vera is also a popular house plant for people. The succulent is quite easy to take care of and can also help keep the air in your home clean. 

It can rid the air of benzene and formaldehyde, which can be found in things like floor varnishes and some detergents. If you want your plant to be as healthy as possible, be sure to keep it in a place that gets a lot of sun.

Spider Plant

If you like low maintenance plants that can make a statement with its design, the spider plant might be for you. It is resilient and quite easy to take care of, and long as it resides in a bright light. They can survive in a range of different temperatures and is great for those who can’t seem to keep a plant alive. 

The plant can rid the air of a variety of toxins like carbon monoxide and xylene. Another great thing about these plants is that they are non-toxic for pets, which isn’t all that common in many houseplants, unfortunately.

English Ivy

English Ivy is a perennial vine that is incredibly popular outside on walls and fences, but is also used indoors as well. In addition to looking elegant indoors and being able to be trained into shapes, it can also be very good for the air in your home. It is especially good at reducing fecal particles, and can also combat mold.

While it can grow in many environments, it thrives in areas with a lot of direct sunlight and a lot of water. This plant can also potentially survive for many years if treated right and is in the correct conditions. It can also reside in pots, baskets, and many other locations.

Peace Lily

Peace lilies, in addition to being very easy to care for, can look good in nearly any room. They will even tell you when they need to be watered with a slight drooping of their leaves. Normally, they should be watered weekly. In addition to looking good, these plants help reduce the presence of toxins such as carbon monoxide, benzen, xylene, and others.

While helpful and a good addition to many homes, they can potentially be toxic to not only pets but possibly humans. As a result, if you ever touch or care for the plant, you need to be sure to wash your hands after.
