President Barack Obama’s adviser, Van Jones resigned from his post early this morning, according to the reports from the White House.

Van Jones has been in the spotlight for the past few days, as a controversy had been brewing about certain statements that he had made in the past that were deemed to be inflammatory in nature. It was reported that Van Jones came into the line of fire after he had signed a controversy petition that had concerned the 9/11 terrorist attacks and suggested there was a government role in the attacks. Also, he had been asked to apologize for derogatory statements he made against the Republicans.

The White House, late on Saturday, is issued a statement saying that Jones was resigning from his post at the Council on Environmental Quality, following the claims against him. He is alleged to have always maintained that he did not comply with the petition and last week is known to have issued a statement of apology. Jones said that he was the victim of opponents who denounced the health care reforms. He stated, “On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.”

Van Jones was an administration official specializing in environmentally friendly "green jobs".
