This unique Tu B'Shevat Seder ritual was originally developed by KEHILLAT MISHPAKHOT, "Community of Families" in Hebrew, an experimental Havurah, to explore the culture of sustainability. The Community, a re-creation of tribal groups in the modern world, consisted of people who related to others in a hands-on cooperative friendship circle. Family life in warm supportive communities is a human need, equally important to all cultures and religions. Members of Kehillat Mishpakhot tried to integrate work life, home life, spiritual life, and child rearing into a more satisfying total way of life - that would be in balance with the resources of Planet Earth and the living creatures that share this world with us. The TU B'SHEVAT SEDER, New Year of the Trees, originated among the medieval Jewish mystics in S'fat. The ecological message of this holiday is even more important today. Joy and spiritual uplift are key parts of building a sustainable world future. Suggested donation $5 per adult. Mystery Door Prize.

Global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans' habitats are all addressed. The film's premise is that the future of humanity is in jeopardy. "Global warming is not only the number one environmental challenge we face today, but one of the most important issues facing all of humanity ... We all have to do our part to raise awareness about global warming and the problems we as a people face in promoting a sustainable environmental future for our planet." —Leonardo DiCaprio. Everyone is asked to bring a raw/ethical dish that feeds 8-10 people. If you are unfamiliar with what ethical eating entails, please don't be overwhelmed. A simple sliced fruit or veggie platter will be a great addition to our dinner. Think about how the main ingredients were produced. Were they grown locally, organically or otherwise sustainably?
