IKEA, the largest home furnishing store in America, is no longer stocking or selling incandescent bulbs in the U.S or Canada.

In August of 2010, IKEA pledged to begin the phase out and have these inefficient bulbs off their shelves by January 2011. On Tuesday, January 4, 2011, IKEA followed through on their pledge and became the first store to comply with the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The Act mandates that retailers phase out incandescent bulbs from their shelves by 2012-2014.

IKEA will still sell energy efficient bulbs such as compact fluorescents (CFLs), halogens, and Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps.

This is a significant step in the energy revolution, and is a good sign for the future of American business.
