The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $114 million in grants to 183 community groups for education and training, including numerous groups already involved in the government’s YouthBuild program. YouthBuild assists youths in obtaining high school diplomas or GEDs and occupational training in construction.
Those involved in YouthBuild are learning to build and renovate affordable housing as well as learning green building methods, retrofitting homes and ways to be environmentally conscious.
This funding brings the total number of government-funded YouthBuild projects to 228.
