This is one of the profiles in an ongoing series covering next generation agriculture. We are seeing an increased trend for indoor farming across the United States and around the world. This is a positive trend given that local farming reduces adverse CO2 emissions from moving food long distances. If you would like us to review and profile your company, just let us know! Contact Us

Company Profile: Tweed Farm

Here is a great example of a cannabis production facility in Ontario, Canada.

Here is some of the “About Us” content: Welcome to Tweed Farms, a 350,000 sq ft greenhouse located in the heart of Southwestern Ontario’s wine country in Niagara-On-The-Lake. The greenhouse at Tweed Farms is an environmentally friendly operation, capable of growing large quantities of sun-grown cannabis through the use of recycled rainwater. Originally built in the early 1990s, the site has been used to grow an array of produce for national grocery chains – tomatoes, herbs, cucumbers and most recently eggplants. There’s a chance you’ve already enjoyed something grown at Tweed Farms!

Tweed Farms includes a second state-of-the-art building which allows for on-site harvesting and processing. In addition to the 350,000 sq ft greenhouse, which is the largest cannabis greenhouse in the world as far as we know, we’re also pretty sure we’ve had the largest legal cannabis harvest in the history of the human race! We like to call this the "Great Canadian Cannabis Harvest of 2016".

The urban farming phenomenon isn't slowing down any time soon. To date, the cost of man made lighting has been a barrier for indoor agriculture. A new generation of LED lighting provides cost effective opportunities for farmers to deliver local produce. Warehouses and greenhouses are both viable structures for next generation agriculture. Here is one example of next generation made in USA LED grow light technology to help farmers: Commercial LED Grow Lights.
